Sincerely Yours constantly seeks ways to stamp out
illiteracy and prejudice amongst the people of our nations.
WE NEED YOUR
HELP! Join us in our annual International Walk for Literacy and Cultural
Awareness!
Your class will walk together as a group and encourage neighbors, families,
friends, colleagues, business owners, churches, and other organizations to
join you on your journey to eliminate illiteracy and the lack of awareness
of cultural differences amongst children (and adults) internationally. If
they cannot join you on your walk, request that they show their support by
sponsoring you and your efforts to make a difference!
Participating in the International Walk for Literacy and Cultural Awareness
builds morale and camaraderie and demonstrates to all children that they
have the power to evoke change!
Our idea is to have fun on a walk while raising
money for a great cause, bringing the world of Sincerely Yours and all of
its benefits to socially and economically disadvantaged children around the
world. Our walk enables us to come together as communities and unite around
a common goal.
How it Works
- The walk-a-thon takes place on
the first Saturday of May at 10 o’clock am
- The walk is 1 mile in distance
- Prior to the walk, teachers and students take a community walk and map out their
own 1 mile walk in their community
- This is critical because we will all be walking on the SAME DAY at the SAME
TIME, in DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, around the world in our own communities demonstrating
that we do not have to be in the same locations to be UNITED! It is amazing!
- The mapping of the 1 mile route is heavily laden with instructional material
that the students can and will learn and benefit from, from measurement to
reasoning!
- The mapping should be completed by April 1 and submitted to school administration
for review and approval
- Teachers create a lesson on safety rules and mapping but allow your children
to be creative in determining their walk-a-thon route
- All participants
solicit sponsorships from colleagues, friends, families,
church members, business
owners, etc. to raise money to support the cause using
our sponsorship form
- Sponsorship forms and contributions/money should be collected and submitted
to Sincerely Yours Pen Pals by April 15. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH. If sponsors
pay with cash, please send a check or money order for their contribution.

- On the day of the walk, tell students
and other participants to arrive to your starting location
by 8:30am
- Ensure that all participants know to come dressed appropriately in comfortable
clothing and bring a water bottle.
- NOTE: This is not a race. The idea is to have fun on a walk and raise
money to support a cause we all care about. It should be light and relaxing
and FUN AND EMPOWERING.
- Thank you for your support!
- Closer to the time day of the event, Sincerely Yours will have T-Shirts
available for sale for ALL participants so that everyone can see the commitment
you have toward ending word-wide illiteracy! (More information to come)
